Mystery Photos

This photo turned up recently, and we would like to try to identify who this man is. It was originally mailed to an unidentified boarding house in Pike county to one Elizabeth Holcomb.

Here is the back of the photo:

Here is a recently discovered postcard with an unidentified photo of three men. Do you recognize them?

The postcard above was addressed to Mrs. W.A. Snyder, Higby. This is Edna Claytor Snyder, wife of Wesley Adam Snyder. Ruthie contributed this photo along with the following description:

“The picture is postmarked 1915 to Edna. It is written in pencil and appears to be from Mrs. E. L. H????? I don’t think it is Holcomb. Only some words can be deciphered. A Mrs. Hearles is mentioned. The picture is of 3 men; kind of like 3 generations. I have no idea where this came from or who it is. There was a copy of this picture with the original.”

I was reading about the history of postcards circa 1915 and it was common for families to add their pictures to postcards by use of a Kodak “folding picture camera”.

Yes, I think there is a resemblance! Does anyone know who these men might be?

The old Armbruster home has been rented in the past few years but I have never known of it being used as a boarding house–it was the family home on the farm.

I have just learned from a Pike County researcher that there was supposed to have been a boarding house in the area shown on the map above, located north of Piketon, and somewhere between Rts. 23 & 220. More research is now being conducted to attempt to learn more about this “alleged” boarding house. If anyone has further info, please let us know!

Could the Armbruster home have been a boarding house in the 1800s? I’ve never been inside it, but from the outside it seems large with many rooms/windows. Below is a photo of the Armbruster home, located just outside of Waverly on Rt. 335 towards Omega.

The photo of the man above has recently been discovered in the possession of Snyder/Claytor descendants. On the back it is addressed and was mailed to Elizabeth Holcomb, Omega, Pike County, Ohio, and indicates that she was at an unidentified boarding house. No date is apparent.

We hope to identify this man and to gain info as to why his photo, mailed to Mrs. Holcomb, found its way into the Snyder family’s possession. Who was she?

Our Rachel C. Snyder was once married to William M. Holcomb and they had children together. They married in Ross County, Ohio in 1874 and divorced in 1907. Could this be William?

Any information to help us identify this photo would be greatly appreciated.
